Jack's Weather Report

4/14/23

By Jack Martin on Apr 14, 2023 at 02:52 PM

Good Friday morning,

As we saw over the mountains yesterday a weak system in SCAL has caused some rain in LA. anywhere from 1/10 to a high of 1-inch https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/getlocal.php?prod=LAXRRMLOS  Here no rain, but high pressure and a warm-up will arrive as soon as this low flows through today https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=26.3,-112.6,5z/date=2023-04-14,03:30,-7

Saturday some warming, but nothing crazy warm. Sunday should be the warmest day with highs in the low to mid-70s.

As always, this time of year the valleys will start to warm up with the coast starting out with some low clouds, before clearing.

Next week we will see more of the same with fog along the coast in the mornings and continued low 70s for all.

I do have some good news for later next week if you like the heat. Models are calling for a big warmup later in the week and into next weekend with our first heatwave for the season.

In the meantime enjoy cool spring weather with not a lot of excitement. Enjoy the weekend and sunshine for most. with no more rain in sight 😊

Good Wednesday morning,

May gray, June gloom in April, and the coldest season in over 50 years .
Where the rest of the country is seeing a heat wave, we are seeing a cold wave.

A weak low-pressure system is over Oregon and has pushed the cool air and fog over us. https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=35.77,-120.47,6z

Tonight this will move south over land with no rain, just cold, damp, drizzle and wind.

Thursday will be quite chilly with highs for most in the lower 60s

High pressure will begin to build in on Friday starting to warm us up.

Saturday and Sunday should be a pleasant weekend with highs in the low to mid 70s

Next week looks to continue with typical spring weather with all systems remaining to the north with pockets of wind, clouds and cool weather .

I promise it will warm up sooner then later , the weekend will be nice and we can shed our sweatshirts for the afternoon. Remember I just deliver the forecast, I don’t make it :)

Good Tuesday morning,

Not much excitement out there and that’s a good thing regarding the weather.

The fog this morning is a little deeper at 1000 feet. Clearing along the coast will be slower, with some western areas seeing no clearing.

Tonight cold air moves in which will create some wind from the Northwest, breezy but not crazy.

Wednesday a weak system hits southern California, not affecting us. Just cooler temps. If any rain it will be down below LA. https://zoom.earth/#view=30,-111.5,5z/map=live

Thursday more wind, cooler temps. No heat wave here, unlike a lot of the country.

Friday through Monday we will be on a warming trend, bringing in warmer temps for the weekend. Highs will rise into the low to mid 70s.

Good Monday morning

It was fun to watch the fog start to flow in last night around 7:30 pm (see attachment ) The days are getting quite a bit longer. Sunrise 6:34 am Sunset 7:26 pm

https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/usa/santa-barbara

High pressure remains in place,  pushing any weather systems to the north. https://zoom.earth/#view=33.7,-110.3,4z/map=live

This week, typical spring-like weather all week long. A weak system passes through creating nothing more than a morning, low clouds, and some wind times. Today high pressure rolls some fog along the coast and clear in the valleys highest today along the coast will be in the upper 60s thanks to the fog, but upper 70s in the valleys.

Spring has begun and Tuesday not a lot of change high-pressure moves east replaced by a very weak low pressure which will do nothing more than bring up some wind on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings along the coast along with cooler temperatures. As we move into later in the week really there are not a lot of changes, it looks like the weekend will be nice. High pressure will build in keeping everyone in the mid-70s for just perfect spring-like weather with no rain in sight.

Have a great week will be checking in.

Easter

By Jack Martin on Apr 10, 2023 at 04:14 PM

Happy Easter,

As we rise, I look outside and wonder what’s going on…. Fog !!! I have not seen low fog in months.

The fog level is a low 600 feet so this will burn off early, around 10 am. We will see a nice sunny day.

Here in SB, the fog will keep us in the low 70s, but the Valleys should rise into the upper 70s.

The great weather will continue into the beginning of the week, with highs remaining in the 70s Monday. https://zoom.earth/

Tuesday has some cooling, but still nice. Wednesday's weak low pressure will bring more marine layer and fog .possible a little drizzle Wednesday or Thursday morning.

Next weekend, sunny skies and high pressure builds back in to make a nice weekend. still no rain in sight….

let’s look at lake levels this is amazing https://www.co.monterey.ca.us/home/showpublisheddocument/22189/638132588340230000 Nacimiento is 94% and San Antonio is 67%

We all know about our local lakes are all full and we are close to double the annual rainfall for the entire rain year Oct 1 to Sept 30th https://files.countyofsb.org/pwd/hydrology/Rainfall%20Reports/rainfallreport.pdf Amazing.

I hope everyone enjoys the great day out there, then it is back to work on Monday.

Good windy Monday morning,

Oh, the fun of the wind. There will be plenty of it today, especially in the mountains, looking at 70-mile-an-hour winds. Locally 30 miles an hour to blow those tarps around.
https://zoom.earth/#view=29,-110.4,4z/map=live

Other than the wind, we will be chilly through Tuesday then we start to come out of the cold and calm throughout the week into the weekend.

Not any big changes to the forecast, just wind the next 2 days, national championship game is tonight ( Go SDSU ) Did you know it has been 25 years since the west coast has been in the championship game? I hope that UCON does not blow SDSU away in the wind like our weather. Nothing to lose ….

The rest of this week we will look towards warming and a great holiday weekend coming up. Happy birthday Dina, and I hope everyone has a great week!

Happy April,

We are starting a new month the right way, with no rain Insight. Today is the first day of April for jokesters.

Here is one that I can relate to Can bees fly in the rain? Sure, if they wear yellow jackets!

With all seriousness, it is great to see dry weather through the entire week, with no rain. “How long has it been “

You are going to love your Saturday; it is going to be sunny and warm 4 to 8 degrees from Friday. still a few degrees below normal, upper 60s.

Sunday some onshore flow, nothing exciting, a fair overall day. Sunday night a cold inside slider brings winds from the Northwest. https://zoom.earth/

Next week we will see dry weather with mostly clear skies, all week long and by the end of the week….. 70s … now how about that !!!!

Not a lot more to say but enjoy the dry weeks' weather. What am I going to do with all my extra time?

ok lastly let’s give some lake levels https://www.co.monterey.ca.us/home/showpublisheddocument/22189/638132588340230000 Nacimiento

Good Friday morning,

It has been a rough March with so much more rain, but today March ends and we welcome April on Saturday.

Happy birthday to Terri and Andrea. March has been an amazing month after an amazing January. With all the rain and snow in our local mountains,

It has been the coldest winter in 50 years.

We will talk about this picture for decades to come, March the 30th 2023. The Santa Barbara Mission with the hills behind yesterday (great photo Mike)

Today we start with sunshine and warmer weather. The best news is rain is not in the extended forecast. The weekend will be full of sunshine, even if it is cooler than normal.

Just look at these crazy numbers for the season to date with the rain. Santa Barbara is 35 inches, San Marcos pass 75 inches. We have almost doubled rainfall for the entire year to date.

We are 214% of normal, The pass is 222% of normal to date. This is absolutely amazing https://files.countyofsb.org/pwd/hydrology/Rainfall%20Reports/rainfallreport.pdf

and of course, all our lakes are full.

High pressure will build in today with just some high clouds at times and highs in the mid-60s, still 10 degrees below normal https://zoom.earth/

Saturday will be a great day with highs in the upper 60s and lots of sunshine.

Sunday is a nice day, but maybe some marine layer then wind in the evening from the northwest.

next week, a few inside sliders which means some wind, and no rain. April always seems to be quite windy with sundowners from the Northwest.

This will likely be part of our forecast all month. In the meantime let’s begin to look forward to putting this rainy season behind us, and beginning to enjoy the spring and summer months.

Can you imagine that we might have to turn the heater off and switch to AC in the months to come? It has been a long time.

Have a great weekend, and don’t be fooled on Saturday, April 1st

Good Thursday morning,

Last night the rain came down hard in spirits as the low dropped south. Results we better than expected and totals for last night and the entire storm were greater than originally predicted.

San Marcos pass added another 3 inches to the season's totals SB 1.5 inches. last night everyone was .70 to 1.5 inches of additional rainfall https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/getlocal.php?prod=LAXRRMSBA The low is dropping south then moving east this afternoon. Rain will be showery this morning then stops this afternoon. Currently just off the Santa Barbara coast.

https://zoom.earth/ . Here is the current radar  https://radar.weather.gov/station/KVBX/standard

The good news is we will see dry weather after today. There should be no substantial storms through mid-April. “Yes, that’s what I said “ amen

This does not mean any rain, maybe a few weak systems, but no substantial ones. let spring arrive and start to dry us out and warm us up.

Today, is chilly, with showers and snow levels at 3500 feet. highs will be in the upper 50s to low 60s . 10 to 15 degrees below normal .

Friday zonal flow which means no rain and more sun, with a few degrees of warming

Saturday and Sunday are more of the same. warming each day, but temps will still be below normal.

Next week a weak system will bring showers to the interior but should keep us dry. cooler, but what’s new?

As I said we are then looking at an extended dry period. April brings spring flowers and warmer temps. I am hoping this holds true. it has been a long wet rainy season.

Have a great day, 2 days left in March.

On another rainy day,

Good Wednesday morning, for more rain …. Where the rain has been on the lighter side, it is adding up quickly. In general, the forecast has been right on track, but some higher totals so far.

Basically ranging from .50 to 1.5 inches so far, but climbing. The pass has seen over 1.5 inches. Goleta 0.70, surprisingly Montecito is at 0.47 but climbing now. The big winner so far has been at Rocky Butte with 2.5 inches.

https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/lox/scripts/getlocal.php?prod=LAXRRMSBA  You can see on the satellite that we are just seeing the leading edge of the front which will move past us in the next few hours before we will get a break before the heart of the storm arrives https://zoom.earth/

The main low is in Nor Cal and will move south quickly this afternoon, however, we will get a break this morning into mid-afternoon. Where the first part of the storm has been steady with overall light to moderate rainfall. The second wave will be Interesting, with heavier rain likely at times due to cold air, thunderstorms, and south winds. This will arrive later in the afternoon and last into Thursday Morning. The rain will be heavy at times, the total might not be as great as the first wave. We are likely looking at another ½ of an inch, coastal, and another 1 inch in the hills, higher amounts during thunderstorms.

All in all, this storm will over-perform than originally thought. “ That’s the story of this rainy season”.

Snow levels will drop today and bring snow down to 3000 feet tonight. Expect some snow in the local mountains Thursday morning. The system clears out Thursday afternoon and we are looking for a nice weekend, warming each day.

Saturday and Sunday we will warm into the upper 60s with lots of sunshine, and the second dry weekend in a row.

Next week, when the models are still not in agreement. There will be a weak system moving through early next week, but it is looking to be dry or at least weaker.

The good news is Saturday welcomes April, and we are hoping for spring weather and a warmer, drier month.

Enjoy the rain, it is adding up…
