Jack's Weather Report
11/4/23
Good dark Saturday morning,
6:19 am today it is dark, Sunday morning w will have daylight. Don’t forget turn back your clocks tonight 1 hour.
If you have tech, it will do it for you (the worst part is ½ my clocks do this, and the other half do not, So what time is it ?)
Today, there is a neutral flow , meaning onshore and offshore is the same. Onshore will take over today.
If you are in LA you will see dense fog at LAX and some coastal areas, thanks to fog in the Catalina area.
The next week is all about weather systems passing through to the north of our forecast areas. These systems are causing rain in the pacific northwest.
And the systems will sag south to die at the central coast. Rain to the bay area but nothing here but wind. There is a slight possibility of some light rain on the central coast Tuesday.
https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=41.2,-114.2,4z This next week really shows that systems are running through to the north, but the season for rain here has not arrived “Yet”
For us, today is a nice warm day after the sun rises. Chilly this morning, pack a sweatshirt. Nice overall with a high in SB of 79 and mid 80s in the valleys.
Gaviota to Refugio, plan on winds to come up this evening. Sundowner winds are likely almost any evening this next week. Sun downer wind might even make it to SB Tuesday evening.
Rain chance is not out there, damp mornings and cooler “yes“. Highs will drop into the upper 60s on Tuesday-Wednesday.
Later in the week, slight offshore flow Wednesday into Thursday then onshore again. The news stations are trying to get your attention advertising rain next Friday. I would not bet the house on that at all.
Have a great Saturday, it will be extremely nice today for November. Kenny Loggins is at the Bowl tonight, bring a light jacket or sweatshirt for after sunset. It should be a great show at the Bowl.
Have a great weekend.
Don’t forget turn back the clocks tonight, and you get an extra hour of sleep.

Good Friday morning,
Another crazy work week nearing the end. The weekend is upon us and we have a time change this weekend. We will lose an hour of daylight in the evening, but gain it in the mornings. This will help the kids that go to school earlier since daylight is not till after 7am right now. As My 3 year old grand daughter says “The sky is not blue yet so it is not time to wake up” Well it will be blue Sunday morning when she opens her eyes ... Kids say the funniest things 😂
With our weather, we are enjoying just fantastic summer like daytime temps, but chilly overnight temps, especially in the valleys.
It looks like today will be the last day of off shore winds and Saturday we should see some morning dampness return and onshore flow.
The storm track is well to the north in the Pacific Northwest but will sag some into early next week.
https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=33.8,-112.4,4z
The only result of this will mean pressure gradience and north to northwest winds for us Sunday and into next week.
Temps will easy back some with mid to upper 70s coastal and low 80s in the valleys.
Chilly nights to continue for many moons ahead.
Later next week, it looks like another Santa Ana event and off shore winds again.
“It is that time of year" No rain in site...
Enjoy the weekend, Saturday night you get an extra 1 hour of sleep, and you might wake to blue skies instead of darkness.

Good Thursday morning,
What a week it has been for hot weather. The Santa Ana and off shore winds has kept everyone hot and dry all this week. We have one more day of dry weather and hot before we begin to get a break.
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?x=193&y=117&site=lox&zmx=&zmy=&map_x=193&map_y=117
It looks like Friday we will shift to neutral and onshore flow will begin.
This will cool us down some and coastal will start to see some morning dampness with onshore flow. The valleys should stay warm.
This weekend will be fair, with some cooler temps but still above normal.
Next week looks like a series of lows will pass to the north with Seattle getting quite wet. Rain however will not make it this far south. Central coast at best, but not likely.
A series of systems will roll through to the north next week bringing us wind at best and some onshore flow.
Bottom line no rain is in site.

Happy Halloween day,
It will be a big night for some neighborhoods with many kids roaming the streets. Overall it will be a great night for them with warm weather until after 8 pm. Highs will remain in the 60s for all during the period and start out in the 70s.
For today it is about the winds to the south, and low humidity. This spells high fire warnings in the mountains https://www.weather.gov/lox/
Here is Santa Barbara, no wind, just cool 55 to start and it will warm to 80 degrees today. The valleys a chilly 37 degrees and it will warm into the 80s.
That is pretty much the story all week, highs will stay in the 70s to low 80s all week with cool nights. This will require a jacket or sweatshirt in the morning.
Happy Halloween to all, I am trying to decide whether to go to the valley and see my grandkids all dressed up or lay low, time will tell.
Have a great day,
Jack Martin

Good Monday morning,
It is a chilly morning if you are waking up Santa Ynez with a 36-degree start. Here is SB 47 degrees.
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-120.06326293945311&lat=34.61580479026165
As mentioned Saturday, this week is all about Santa Ana winds, cold nights and warm days.
All week we will see on and off, offshore flow dry air with daytime highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s in the valleys.
Tuesday is Halloween, and it will be a great day. It will stay warm for the kids trick and treating until after 8pm when they will go to bed. Then cold again Wednesday morning.
Overall this entire week will be dry, and warm days, with chilly nights. Enjoy the clear skies and great weather with no rain in site this week at least.
Saturday night did you feel the thumps in the sky at 2 am? It woke me up and sounded like booms in the distance, but it was only Vandenburg launch at 2 am.
Have a great week,
Jack Martin

Good Saturday morning,
If you’re waking up in the Santa Ynez valley. It is a cold 41 degrees...
in Santa Barbara a chilly 54 degrees.
The weather this next week is all about the Santa Ana winds. As high pressure will keep everyone chilly at night and it will warm up into the mid 70s coastal to mid 80s in the valleys.
https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=37.51,-126.58,5z
Look at these swings in Santa Ynez where lows around 40 at night will change to 80s during the day. That’s easy math of 40 degree swings.
Flying further south to Santa Ana county. It is all about the winds. You are looking at on and off Santa Ana conditions with wind gust of 65 miles an hour Sunday and Monday.
High pressure and Santa Ana conditions will be the forecast for the entire next week, which translates into cold mornings and warm afternoons. This is very typical for this time of year, when Santa Ana conditions affect us spring and fall.
Speaking of fall, Nov 5th we turn the clocks back and we get one fewer hours of daylight in the evening. Darkness will be setting in by 5:30 pm for the next 3 months.
If you’re an early person like me, darkness hangs on till after 7am right now. That will change next Sunday where 6ish we will see daylight. If you’re a night owl you might want to start your days earlier if you like the sun and daylight.
Current sunrise and sunset today in Santa Barbara, California: October 28
7:15 AM & 6:09 PM
That’s less then 11 hours of daylight!
Since we are looking at all the seasonal facts. The current ocean temp is 63 degrees, wetsuit weather unless you are visiting from somewhere else and you don’t care … or have a wetsuit.
Ok that’s it for the day, a longer report this morning to make up for the lack of reports during the week. Sometimes my day job makes me skip the report, but today it will be an easier day without many employees.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the fall weather. A jacket or sweatshirt is required this morning.

Good Tuesday morning,
I am back in SB to witness the weather in person. Today it looks like weak off shore winds making for a nice overall day. Temps will rise nicely today.
https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=36.2,-111.3,4z
Wednesday and Thursday a weak system will pass over us and turn the off shore to on shore flow. This will affect the coast and coastal valleys with fog and some drizzle through Thursday. Friday and into the weekend looks fair, and typical fall weather.
Bottom line, a series of weak systems will change our weather back and forth with no major events occurring this week. Do expect fog and drizzle Wednesday into Thursday along the coast.
Enjoy the nice California weather, it was chilly but pretty in Connecticut with all the Fall colors, happy to be back in SB.

Good Monday morning,
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. Sunday was a windy one and that will continue into today as a weak system passes through from the north.
https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=38.9,-117.9,4.51z/date=2023-10-23,07:10,-4
There was even is a 20% chance of rain, but mainly over the mountains where rain does fall. It will be very light.
This coming week expect a cooler week with not a lot of excitement in the forecast.
Night and morning clouds, even a possible drizzle overnight tonight, but for the most part a cooler week overall as a couple weak systems past through.
Cabo San Lucas is recovering from hurricane Norma brought hundred mile an hour winds on route bunch of rain.
Enjoy the week, and Happy Birthday Conor

Good Monday morning,
What a great weekend in October it was. The rest of the country is feeling the results of fall and we have summer like weather through this work week. This is thanks to off shore winds. Not much fog around with only a few spotty areas
https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=32.45,-116.77,5.54z
This week we will see great weather with low 80s along the coast and 90s in the valleys through Friday. The weekend will cool down as a weak system to the north will bring back fog and onshore flow.
This week the weather is pretty much uneventful with just summer like temps. As I always have said, October is the nicest month of the year in our area. This year is living up to that.
The only excitement is some winds tonight in the foothills 15 to 30 miles an hour.
Thursday will be the hottest day in the next 7 days with temps well above normal.
Lastly looking into the extended forecast, long range models are showing our first chance for rain on the 25th of October. Let’s not get too excited about this, because that is still 10 days away, but it will be something to watch. We always seem to get our first 1/4 rain right around Halloween 🎃
In the mean time enjoy the great summer weather this week
