Jack's Weather Report
12/6/19
Good Friday morning,
Are you ready for more rain. Ready or not here it comes again.
This system will be a lot different from the last, but will bare the same results with a fair amount of rain.
You can see low pressure to the north pulling the sub tropical jet towards us.
Yes, call it what you like, Pineapple Express, atmospheric River. You can see it here:
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html
This will bring a longer period of lighter rain. Rain will start up later in the day and continue on and off into Sunday.
12/5/19
Good Thursday morning,
Wednesday gave us quite a bit of excitement in the morning when the skies opened and dumped heavy rain for a 2 hour period.
The good news was heavy rain was short lived and did not do any real damage in the fire areas.
The rain totals were great with this system, especially in the Santa Barbara area.
everyone received 1 to 2 inches of rain. Here are the totals for SB county.
12/4/19
Good Wednesday morning,
Low pressure is spinning off shore and has been moving quite slowly.
We have only seen some light showers, but rain will pick up around 6:30 and we will see a brief period of some heavy rain.
Looks like it will dump pretty good for a 2 to 3 hour period, before turning to showers.
12/3/19
Good Tuesday morning,
My weather spotters report rain on the pass and Refugio beach last night.
This was a result of the moisture plume spreading South as reported in yesterday’s forecast.
Only SLO and western SB county got a trace of rain.
Today we will prepare for the next system.
12/2/19
Good Monday morning,
Hope everyone had a nice holiday and made it home safe and dry.
Today we will see the Pineapple Express or atmospheric river sag south a little.
For the past 36 hours, it has been focused in Monterey area where some locations have seen 10 inches of rain.
12/1/19
Welcome to December, 30 more days before 2020.
The rain yesterday was exactly as advertised, however it started up slightly earlier then originally forecast.
We saw light rain for an 8 to 10 hour period with everyone seeing 1/4 to 3/4 of a inch.
Turning our focus to current.
11/30/19
Good Saturday morning,
Yes, just to make sure you know what day it is.....
We are in a very interesting pattern with chances of rain for the next 7 days.
You can see the low pressure system spinning off shore and pumping subtropical plume towards use.
This will create rain later in the day. The rain will not be heavy, but we are expecting 1/2 to 1/4 of an inch throughout the area tonight and into Sunday.
11/29/19
Good Friday Morning,
I hope everyone had a nice day off in the middle of the week. It was quite interesting weather for southern California. We typically don’t see snow and hail here.
Today as I woke up, I had to think about what day it is. “For me a work day”.
For all those Crazy people that are going shopping, you better dress warm. It is cold and windy out there.
Thanksgiving Forecast
Good Chilly Thanksgiving Day Morning,
I slept in till 5am. That’s a treat…
Chilly, wet and rainy is our Thanksgiving Day forecast.
Starting out the day it is in the low 40s in Santa Barbara and 35 degrees in Santa Ynez.
Snow level is at 2500 feet with 6 inches of snow on the Grape vine.
The only good to that is 1 lane is open to traffic.
11/27/19
Good Wednesday morning,
The rain is falling right on time. Started up fairly heavy at 3:30 am.
From fires to rain and likely some flooding is the story line for the thanksgiving week.
The firemen, bombers, planes and helicopters did a great job on the fire yesterday.
Mother Nature will help out today and Thursday.
What should we expect?
Rain is going to fall fairly heavy for a 2 to 3 hour period.
