Jack's Weather Report

Weekend Weather 3/15/19

By Jack Martin on Mar 15, 2019 at 03:11 PM

Good Friday morning,

Did you miss me yesterday? There was no excitement with the weather, so I did not think I needed to write a report.

Until now…

It is going to be a fantastic weekend. A weekend we all have earned with all the rain and cold of this year.

Great weather will continue through Monday.

Saturday and Sunday will in the mid 70s to lower 80s. Just great spring weather.

In Santa Barbara and really everywhere, except Ventura and points with Santa Ana winds. You will need to battle northeast winds today and Saturday.

If you look at the satellite you will see a massive storm in the Midwest.

Good Wednesday morning,

That wind blew hard all night. I need to go and pluck all the covers and pillows out of the pool.

Winds are going to settle down this morning from the northwest in SB, but pick up from the northeast. Ventura south will feel it now.

The system that went through Monday is now turning north and is going to hammer the Midwest and Colorado.

Take a look, you can see it on the map:

Regarding our weather. We are in for a nice spell of warm, sunny and dry weather.

3/12/19 Forecast

By Jack Martin on Mar 12, 2019 at 03:17 PM

Good Tuesday morning,

Monday presented us with a few surprising showers in Santa Barbara.

These were not in our forecast area, but they were to the south of us.

Rain was enough to get the streets wet, but did not really record as rainfall.

Just enough to create excitement on open roofs and scramble with out plastic.

Today the low that pushed through the area is moving into Baja Mexico.

No more showers here, but LA will likely see some.

North facing mountains in LA even saw 6 to 12 inches of snow last night.

3/11/19 Forecast

By Jack Martin on Mar 11, 2019 at 03:57 PM

Good Monday morning,

Sunday weather behaved as forecast. Some showers over the hills, but none made it to the coastal areas except for Carp and a bit of Ventura.

Today, there is a low pressure system spinning off shore. This is far enough to the west that it will not affect our weather.

This is going to continue south then east into Mexico later today. The only chance of rain or snow will be over the mountains to the south:

Tuesday another weak system rolls through. This will do nothing more than create wind Tuesday night and Wednesday.

3/10/19 Sunday

By Jamie Graham on Mar 11, 2019 at 03:53 PM

Good Sunday morning,

Did you turn your clock ahead? If you did not, it is an hour later than you think.

I actually slept in until 5:30 today... daylight saving time....

Today will be another cool and cloudy day. Looks like dry through the morning, then a chance of rain or snow this afternoon.

This system is dry and cold. The best chance of rain is in the mountains.

This afternoon you will see the pretty puffy clouds over the mountains.

If they fill up enough, you will see rain along the coast and snow above 3500 feet.

It will not amount to much, and showers will be spotty. Some areas can see 1/4 of an inch and others none.

3/9/19

By Jack Martin on Mar 11, 2019 at 03:47 PM

Good Saturday morning,

After night, we will see one more hour of day light in the evening. Yes it is spring forward time.

This is actually good for myself and Lynn, because we might be getting up in the 5am hour instead of 3 or 4am.

Don’t forget to put your clocks forward one hour before you go to bed.

As far as the forecast goes, today will be dry, but there is a weak system heading right a the central coast:

 https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

This will cause rain to the north and a chance of rain in Santa Barbara. I think everyone will see rain from Santa Ynez to the north.

Santa Barbara and south will see very little. 1/10 is about right.  This system rolls east on Sunday and another runs at us from Oregon.

This system is over land and is moisture starved. It is also quite cold. Snow levels will drop below 4000 feet.

3/8/19 Forecast

By Jack Martin on Mar 08, 2019 at 06:37 PM

Today a little wind and a few showers in areas. Last night the rain was really from Santa Ynez and to the north. For us in SB just some wind.
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

Most systems that move from north to south do not give Santa Barbara much rain, Because the mountain block the clouds.

This will be the case as we have 2 more weak systems that will affect us in the next 4 days .

Thursday Forecast

By Jack Martin on Mar 07, 2019 at 04:14 PM

Good Thursday morning,

It is great to look outside and see day light starting at 5:30 am.

We will have 1 dry day before another storm rolls in tonight. The next weather system will be cold, with snow levels at 4000 feet.

https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/h5-loop-wv.html

It will also bring just a little rain. We are looking at 1/10 to 1/4 of an inch between Thursday night and Friday morning.

Friday is looking to be dry for the most part, but cold. Snow levels will drop to 3000 feet.

Saturday and Sunday also look to remain dry, and chilly. Temps will be 10 degrees below normal for this time of year.

3/6/2019 Weather Update

By Jack Martin on Mar 06, 2019 at 04:38 PM

We received 1.5 to 2 inches so far, but it is not over.

Rain is going to continue through the day.

Rain will pick up later today with possible showers with 1/2 to 1 inch rates per hour. Expect to see another 1/2 to 1 inch coastal and 1 to 2 inches in the mountains. LA is getting hammered right now.

Tonight, still a chance of showers, but rain will taper away.

Thursday for the most part will be dry, but still a chance of showers. 30% Thursday night and Friday morning. One more round of rain. This will be on the lighter side. Friday afternoon we dry out for 2 days. Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon will be dry.

Sunday night and Monday morning, one more rain storm. Again on the lighter side.

3/5/2019 Rain Forecast

By Jack Martin on Mar 05, 2019 at 04:04 PM

Good Tuesday morning,

Are we ready for Action...... well you will need to wait until this afternoon.

The low pressure system has slowed it's movement some, so rain will hold off 4 hour from predictions of yesterday.

Looks like the 12 to 1pm hour is about right for the rain to start.

Rain will start up around 1pm and pick up intensity as the afternoon turns to evening.

6pm to 6am will see the heaviest rain, really the 6am part is over LA. For us the heaviest rain should taper around 2 am.

As this system approaches, it is going to stall over the SLO and Santa Barbara counties.

This will bring us a longer period of heavy rain. We are looking at 1/2 to 8/10 of an inch per hour.

There will be good south flow and winds of 15 to 25 miles an hour.

With this, clouds will hit the hills and ring out the rain cloud.

Expect the heaviest accumulations over our south-facing mountains of SB and Montecito. 3 to 5 inches is expected.
