Jack's Weather Report

4/30/23

By Jack Martin on May 01, 2023 at 03:14 PM

Good Sunday morning and the last day of April.

Where overall April has been a pretty good month, we can’t stay the same for the beginning of May. This morning the marine layer is thicker along the coast at about 1500 feet, and has moved into some of the valley area. You can also see the distinct low pressure system that is spinning counterclockwise up in the Pacific Northwest. This will influence our weather over the next four days.

 https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=34.1,-122.2,4z

Today will be cool and foggy along the coast, some warming in the valleys, but this will be the last warm day for a while.

Tonight will bring in a deeper marine layer and possibly produce some drizzle into Monday morning. Looks like a few 100s in the of an inch to a 1/10th. Cooling will be 12 to 25°. Into Tuesday the low pressure system will move south and cut off from the main low. It will remain cooling, but should remain relatively rainless into at least Tuesday night.

The best chance of rain will be Wednesday into Thursday with most Models agreeing. The rain that occurs between Tuesday and Thursday will be showering in nature. It looks like 1/3 to 2/3 of an inch of rain, coastal and 3/4 to to 1.25

In the foothills. Snow level actually get down to 4500 feet. Looks like Thursday night rain chances will be behind us and we will start to warm up for the weekend. This late season storm will be kind of an encore to all the rain that we have seen here this season.

Hopefully, after this week, we will get into a dry warming pattern and put this rainy season behind us.

Sorry for the bleak forecast, but I only report them.

Have a good Sunday!

Good Friday morning,

The weekend is close, and for some it has arrived. Especially if you work a flex week like the City of Santa Barbara and Action roofing.

Today is an off day for field workers. As they sleep in, and it is all about the fog of the day. The marine layer, like all week, will start us out with fog. https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/

The good news is high pressure is building in and the marine layer will break up earlier each day. It looks like clearing along the coast will come around lunch time today, and in the Valleys mid-morning

Highs will vary today as simple as 70 coastal, 80 valley and 90 in the desert and lake Nacimiento. Then Saturday will be the warmest day of the week and weekend. Marine layer will be squashed allowing all areas to climb around 5 degrees.

Sunday is still a nice day, but high pressure moves East and a low-pressure system to the North moves into the Pacific Northwest. This will change the weather for next week. The forecast is becoming a little clearer for the first week in May.

Monday the marine layer deepens, and some drizzle and light rain is possible, especially in LA area. It also cools off quite a bit. The warmest inland areas can see temps drop 15 degrees.

Tuesday the low drops south bringing everyone a chance for rain North to south. Rain is likely Tuesday night through Wednesday night, then Wednesday afternoon into Thursday in LA.

At this point it looks like the heaviest rain will be in LA where 1 to 2 inches are possible. Here in SB less rain, but still likely. It is still too hard to call with how much, but for now we will go with ½ coastal to an inch in the mountains.

That’s still crazy for this time of year, but it will be nothing like the winter months. There are still models that vary the rain, so this is nothing to count on until we get into Sunday and Monday .

All we can count on is cooler weather along the coast and warmer in the Valleys. If you want 80s, drive to Santa Ynez on Saturday and hit a winery.

Otherwise, a few good western playoff games tonight with Golden state at 5pm and lakers at 7:30 pm tonight.

Have a nice weekend.

Updates to come!

Good Thursday morning,

There has been lots of chatter out there about next weeks weather, and possible May rain.

We are looking at a nice warm up through the weekend, especially in the valleys. Then next week it all changes back to March weather.

Let’s start with the now forecast, then we will get into the extended forecast.

As you can see the low clouds and fog has been persistent along the coast which will keep the temps down right along the coast.

Last night at my house the fog started to roll in at 6 Pm and has thickened overnight and has drifted into some of the valleys this morning
https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=36.4,-105.7,5z

Today we will see clearing in the afternoon along the coast and mid-morning in valleys where fog exists.

Highs today will be in the upper 60s along the coast, but 80 in the valleys. There is high pressure and some northeast winds.

The winds will vary from northeast to northwest. Northeast means offshore, Northwest on shore. This is why coastal areas will see fog.

Friday and Saturday the marine layer will shrink along the coast and clearing will occur earlier. Highs along the coast Friday and Saturday will be in the low to mid 70s. If you want warmer just go over the hill in the Santa Ynez Valley where mid 80s are likely. If you want hot, go to the desert or Nascimento where 90s are likely, this is all typical spring-early summer weather.

Sunday a strong low moves into the pacific northwest, this will cool us off, but that’s about it.

Monday we will stay cool and maybe even some drizzle as the marine layer deepens.

Tuesday the low moves closer to us, models at this point looks like no rain until Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Wednesday we are looking at some rain, how much is still real widespread and will be defined as we get into the later part of the weekend.

The wettest models suggest we could see 1 to 3 inches, dry models ¼ to ½. Time will tell, but it does look like we can see rain Wednesday and possible Thursday.

Just crazy, as we thought the rainy season as over. Don’t panic yet, just keep an eye on the forecast.

In the meantime enjoy a great weekend!

Good Tuesday morning,

Today we see one more day of fog then the changes are on the right side with warmth, this graphic shows it all https://www.weather.gov/lox/

High pressure will build Wednesday through Sunday and we will see the warm air build each day. Coastal upper 70s to some low 80s Valleys mid to upper 80s with a few sprinkles of 90s https://zoom.earth/

Lake Nacimiento your summer weather is starting 90s there.

Monday of next week we will look at cooler weather with marine layer, but that is a long way away. The summer-like weather will be the excitement through the week.

How about those Lakers last night in overtime. That old man Lebron James was fantastic.

Good Monday morning,

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. The weather sure was the best we have had year to date.

Now it is back to work, and we have fog that will keep us cooler to start the days. This is great working weather, which will keep us cooler.

Highs will still be in the 70s, but not to warm. https://zoom.earth/ here is how it looks from the sky.

Looks like fog will stick around for the first half of the week with clearing in the afternoons.

As we get to Thursday, we will begin to warm up with some upper 70s through the rest of the week.

The valleys will have mid 70s this week with some low 80s later in the week.

Enjoy the week and perfect working weather.

Wow, what a Friday it was. The best part is today will be equally as nice. Yesterday late in the day I stopped by Hendry’s beach to view the sand after the winter storms. Where it was all rocks, slowly the sand is returning. I am sure the beaches will be packed today.

Waking up this morning it is 55 degrees and great sunny skies. Where highs today will be a few degrees cooler, it will still be in the mid to upper 70s along the coast, and mid 80s in the valleys.

Sunday another great day, but again a few more degrees cooler, still in the 70s.

Next week low 70s warming up Wednesday into the mid to upper 70s. Just great weather all week long.

Enjoy the great weekend and weather into next week

Good Friday morning,

What a fantastic day it will be.

It is going to be the hottest day of the year.

Just look at the title page for the national weather service https://www.weather.gov/lox/ today we will see the hottest day of the year.

Matter of fact the entire weekend is going to be fantastic.

Highs will be in the upper 70s ,80s and some valley areas with see low 90s.

Looking into the future, some cooling the beginning of next week, then we warm up again. As far as rain goes, it is not in the picture next week and beyond.

I think we are finally getting into the weather that makes California fantastic. This will be the case for the next 6 months.

Enjoy the great weekend and the weather we love in California, get outside and love the warm temps.

Good Wednesday morning,
High pressure and offshore flow will be the story over the next 4 days https://zoom.earth/.

Last night the low-pressure system rolled through, and we all knew it with the Northwest winds.

Now it is all about the winds turning to the Northeast. This will bring winds tonight to Montecito and areas Ventura south, with typical Santa Ana wind event, nothing crazy however. Now the good news, each day moving forward we will warm up. By Friday we will see low 80s in some locations, everyone will see 70s through the weekend. It will be a fantastic weekend to start your tan, and or get outside.

Next week we cool down for the first few days, but the good news again is the storm track is moving out of the Pacific northwest and this will keep us warmer.

Looks like we will remain in the 70s Wednesday on, with no rain in site. I think spring and warmer weather is finally on the horizon.
This is great news for all of us. I am sure everyone is ready to shed that sweatshirt and let it warm up.

Enjoy the great warm up, dust off that sun block :)

Good Monday morning,

What a great weekend it was with lots of sun, but cooler temps with high in SB of only 65 degrees.

This morning we are going to start with next Friday and Saturday's weather because this is what we have been talking about for a week now….
Offshore flow is going to bring us upper 70s and low 80s before we cool down to 70 on Sunday.

National Weather Service
forecast.weather.gov

This is the treat we have been waiting for all year to date. Get your suntan lotion out it will be beach weather.

Until Friday there really is no real action in the weather this week. Sure, a little wind Tuesday night and 10% chance for drizzle on Tuesday morning, but pretty bland weather until the offshore event begins on Thursday.

Temps will be cool today then climb a few degrees each day into Thursday. Today the low 60s then add 2 degrees each day and Thursday we will see upper 60s. The offshore wind event will begin Thursday and warm-sunny weather will be upon us for Friday and Saturday.

Have a great week, and we will look forward to the weekend warm up.

Tax day if it was not the weekend. It is fine for me, I have already paid all my taxes for 2022, ouch!

Today will be a great day, with lots of sun in Santa Barbara. If it was a little warmer it would make me happier, but 67 is ok.

The valleys will be a little warmer with highs into the low 70s. The fog is out there and will return as soon as Sunday.
https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=34.46514,-119.92508,9z.

Next week we are looking at more fog, Tuesday and Wednesday especially.
Those days will be the coolest days of the week. The good news is still out there with offshore flow moving in late in the week with a mild Santa Ana event.

This will warm everyone up especially where the winds will blow. This is predicted to be a mild event so winds in the Ventura south, areas will not be crazy.

Santa Barbara will only have the positive results of offshore. Warmer temps and no wind. This should be the best weekend with warm temps we have seen in a long time.

Mark your calendar and call your friends from out of town. It will be a chambers of commerce weekend. I guess I am really putting myself out on the limb, I hope I am right.

I personally look forward to the warmth, it has been a long cold winter and spring to date.

Have a great weekend, lots of good NBA playoff games on. Golden state plays today and the Lakers on Sunday. If you a clippers fan, they play Sunday also.

Enjoy,
Jack Martin
