Jack's Weather Report

6/12/23

By Jack Martin on Jun 12, 2023 at 04:32 PM

Good Monday morning,
Sunday actually turned out to be a fairly nice day. Where we all got to see a few peeks of the sunshine and warming temperatures into the low 70s, which was a real treat.
It looks like this week, we will continue to have cool foggy weather, but nothing like the rain and dismal weather we had last week.
Today as you look at the zoom satellite picture, you’ll see that low pressure system well to the east over in Nevada and has created lots of heavy rain and showers to the east of us. It’s now out of the picture for us at least. The East Coast and Midwest will be feeling that here in the next couple days.
https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=26.8,-110,4z
As far as we go, this week, temperatures will remain below normal throughout the week with typical low clouds and fog along the coast, then actually clearing in the afternoons.
Inland valleys expect warm temperatures, more sunshine and highs in the upper 70s low 80s.
There’s still a cut off low that we’re going to need to deal with on Wednesday but it is not going to affect our weather. Maybe a few in Mountain showers, but it should not affect anything in our area.
As we get into later in the week, models really aren’t clear on what’s going to happen but they are hinting a warming pattern. How warm is it going to get? It’s really not clear at this point, but it looks like next week which could be getting into one of the hottest. We’ve had so far this year, at least in the valleys.
Bottom line, it is fair week, but fog and clouds to take up at minimum the first half of our days. Have a great week.

A good wet Sunday morning,
Last night, right around sunset, I looked outside way into the distance I could see a little bit of light trying to break through all the clouds that we had throughout the day.
Today a cut off low it’s just spinning. Just right off our coast to south of conception.
This has produced drizzle and some light rain as you rise out of bed and look outside. You’ll see the streets are all Wet.
https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=31.2,-121.2,5.72z
Today will be dreary, damp day as the low pressure system moves through this morning. Expect some drizzle , light rain through around noon today then will start to see some build ups over top of the mountains, which can create thunderstorms in the afternoon. It does appear that the thunderstorms will be more to the south. Anyone could see some build ups climb over the mountain this afternoon with thunder and lightning as possible and even hail.
Looking into next week no real changes low clouds and fog will persistent most of the week but a warming trend in the valley should start mid-week. We still have one more cut off low to deal with on Wednesday, but it doesn’t appear that this is going to really affect their weather too much at this point.
A warm up for the valleys and looks like on shore flow maybe less along the coast.
The coastal areas will even get some sunshine in the p.m.
Bottom line, enjoy one more day of cloudy down weather with below normal temps

Good Saturday morning,

Cloudy, cool, damp are all the words of the day.

A second low pressure system is drop down and it’s now parked over the central coast. This is going to affect the weather today to the north of our area. Not a huge impact to the north, but it will work its way down towards Santa Barbara and LA tonight and through Sunday

https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=36.1,-119.6,4z

As you rise this morning you see lots of clouds. These is going to fill our weekend skies. There is a chance of rain today, but the best chance will be tonight and tomorrow with Santa Barbara and South. Los Angeles will run the greatest chance of heavier rain, but both Ventura and Santa Barbara counties will see Mountain thunderstorms tonight through Sunday... this Low spin counterclockwise as you can see in the satellite picture. Whenever we have this type of system, rain over the mountains in Santa Barbara become more likely. The water values are 2 to 3 times what they typically are this time of year and 1 to 1.2 inches in value.

This again is quite unusual for June, but this pattern seems to want to just continue into the summer. It’s hard to believe that first day of summer is in 11 days,  it feels like the winter has just continued.

Today is cloudy and cold highs in the 60s rain chances 30 to 40%

Sunday cloudy and cool rain chances 40 to 50%

Monday the system begins to move to the east.

Tuesday it looks like our weather should improve a bit,  but another cut off low on Wednesday.

Yes, another chance of rain, the system is going to be smaller in size, but the models are beginning to increase the chances of rain on Wednesday.

Looking into the distance for array of sunlight.

For the third week in June, it looks like high-pressure may begin to build in onshore flow weakens and we begin to see what summer is all about.

In the meantime, not a great weekend if you’d like sunshine, outdoor activities will not be ruined, but a sweatshirt will be in order, and you may be dodging some rain, especially on Sunday.

Have a great weekend I’m sure will be in communication on Sunday

I might be a good weekend again for spring housecleaning

Good Friday morning,
Our crazy weather pattern continues. It goes on unscripted, but most areas are starting out with low clouds. Few peaks of sun in Santa Barbara. Thanks to the wind that we had last night but the fog will fill-in and it will be a mostly cloudy day again. Today will be in the 60s along the coast low 70s in the valleys. Weak high-pressure has built in for the short term.
Saturday, low pressure system moves in and brings us another chance for drizzle light rain in Mountain showers. Drizzle and light rain in the mornings, and a chance of mountain thunderstorms in the afternoon, 40%.
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.67108964920043&lat=34.43239888779367
Sunday, the low-pressure system moves East. And we set ourselves up for better conditions for next week. It Does look like some high pressure will start to affect the valleys and raise the temperatures. Along the coast, fog will persist, no real change in the action as a whole, but it looks like rain will be taken out of our forecast next week.
In the meantime, we’ll see what the weekend brings us. If we get some additional rain and drizzle. Whatever it may be it’s not gonna be a weekend that we’re not going to be working on our sun tans.
Have a great day and weekend ,I promise sun by the summer solstice spring.
Parade is June 24th this year

Good morning from Foggy Santa Barbara,

It is still way better than the East coast where the wild fires in Canada are making life miserable.

For us back here getting rain in June is not usual. The last time we saw rain was June 2015 – .005 of an inch. Before that 2011 – 1.14 inch

And our funky weather is not over yet, we will continue to see fog, damp mornings drizzle, and light rain possible all the way through Sunday along the coast.  Looking up into the mountains calling for a 50% chance of rain on Sunday 40% Saturday. This is due to another low-pressure system that is going to affect us. https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-119.64019060134889&lat=34.489013796838194

As it gets closer to the weekend we will see how this all materializes but anyway we look at it it’s going to be damp with light rain possible . As far as mountain rains go this is looking to bring a good chance to inland areas southwest California.

Just read this crazy paragraph:

As the trough moves into the region over the weekend, the air mass

will destabilize. A vast majority of the EPS, GEFS, and CMC

ensemble members have rain at most airports across Southwest

California between Saturday and Sunday, but the timing and exact

amounts are the most uncertain aspects of the forecast. With the

instability with the trough and it being June with a higher sun

angle, a slight chance of thunderstorms was kept for now. Amounts

will vary widely due to convective nature of storms. Forecast

ensemble precipitable water mean values range between 0.60-0.80

inch, or close to 150 to 200 percent of normal, while some

ensemble members throw decent CAPE values over portions of the

region. CMC members kick out decent CAPE values between 600-1200

J/kg over KSDB, KWJF, and KPMD.

Stay tuned, but I guess it’s better than the smoke on the East Coast.  Just look at this before and now picture. Thanks, Mark.

Good Wednesday morning,

Who would’ve known June was going to bring us rain. Just amazing the past two days.

Everyone received anywhere from a quarter to a half an inch of rain and now it looks like this spinning low pressure system is moving east.
The weather today should improve  and we will actually see some peeks of sun.

As far as the forecast for today, chance of mountain showers, but not likely along the coast. Cool with highs only in the 60s https://zoom.earth/

Thursday and Friday clouds return, and slight improvements, slightly warmer but nothing to bring us out of this funk.

The weekend, another low pressure system. This one looks to bring again some drizzle, possible light rain, along the coast, but not like we’ve had the past two days. A chance of Some Mountain showers over the weekend. But for the most part, it will be better weather than what we have seen for the first half of this week..

It’s just crazy to think that we’re at June 7 and we’re still receiving rain. I can’t remember the last time I’ve ever seen this late in the year. I can’t remember the last time I seen rain other than drizzle in June.

Here’s a few pictures from yesterday afternoon as the rain started to come in late in the day, thought I would share. Enjoy the dryer day, but remember it’s still June gloom and it will continue the rest of the week..

Just another day of crazy weather for 2023. Take a look at the low pressure system, spinning, and dropping some showers over top of various locations. SLO has received 1/2 inch of rain in areas over night.

We have received 1/3 of an inch on San Marcos pass and .13 in SB. With varying amounts in other locations (so far)

https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=33.9,-118.7,5.63z/date=2023-06-06,03:50,-7

Our rain chances are going to diminish as we get into the morning over the next couple hours however, they will return again in the afternoon over the mountains. Threat of thunder showers remain at around 40%.

Here’s what the activity looks like right now https://radar.weather.gov/station/KVBX/standard

Today cloudy with a chance of rain.

Wednesday, the spinning low moves out of the area, and our weather will start to improve. But not by much.

Thursday, low clouds and fog return and we get into the same June gloom pattern through Friday.

For the weekend, well, it looks like another low pressure system is going to drop down upon us and bring another threat of rain. June rain isn't that crazy.

Good very wet morning,

There’s actually drizzle and light rain in the hills along the coast and leave it off low pressure system. That’s going to give us a chance of rain in June. Just take a look at this little blob, spinning off the coast right around point conception. https://zoom.earth/

This has already messed up our morning because it is pea soup out there wet everywhere. And as the day progresses, we even have a better chance of some rain later in the afternoon, especially along the mountains of Santa Barbara and Ventura about 30%. https://radar.weather.gov/station/KVTX/standard

As the low pressure system spins through Santa Barbara.
Today will be damp, chilly, and this afternoon some afternoon showers over the hills.

On Tuesday the chances of rain shifts more to the north in SLO and Santa Ynez have a greater chance for some afternoon showers.

Wednesday the spinning low pressure system begins to move out of the area, but it really doesn’t improve our weather much the chances for precept go down, but expect low clouds and fog to remain along with cooler temperatures all week long.

Wednesday through Friday cool and foggy.

As we get into the weekend, there’s another low pressure system that does appear to remain to the north, so it really shouldn’t affect us that much but it will still keep us cool.

Anyway, you look at our funky weather pattern just seems to keep continuing into the second half of the year now.

Be careful out there. It’s quite damp this morning.

Good foggy Sunday morning,

After a 1 day break from the fog, we are back in the thick of it.

Through mid week we will be seeing a couple low pressure systems affecting us with just more of the same fog, deeper marine layer, cooler temperatures, and even a very slight chance of rain in the mountains.

Today the marine layer is about 1750 feet which means afternoon clearing. It will be a cool day. When the fog does clear we’re going to see some clouds over the mountains.

It’s not likely to create any rain, but a low pressure system is going to pass through tonight. Highs today along the coast 68 and 77 in the valleys .
https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/#view=34.6,-116.9,4.76z

On Tuesday will have another low pressure system. Come through this once a little bit stronger bring us a 20% chance of rain in the mountains only coastal areas it’s going to be just foggy and damp.

Oh, after Wednesday, it looks like we will start to improve our weather some hot spectacularly, but will start to see more sunshine inland along the coast. However, the fog will continue.

Enjoy, it will get hot at some point, until then more of the same.
It was 85 in Santa Ynez yesterday and 71 here. If you want warm, u must cross the pass, but today 10 degrees cooler, but 77 in my eyes is perfect.

Have a great Sunday
